Student Wellbeing

Discipline/Bullying

As a Catholic school, Christ the King Primary School endeavours to foster the values of mutual respect, responsibility and service within the community. In our relationships with others, we are committed to fairness, cooperation and concern for the wellbeing of all in our community.

All members of the Christ the King Primary School community have the right of respect from others, the right to learn or teach, and a right to feel safe and secure in their school environment.

Please see our Assertive Discipline Policy and bullying Policy.

Students with disabilities

The school community believes that all children should be considered as worthy of equal consideration and opportunity, and that all children should be encouraged to see and treat others in such a manner. Participation and competence are equally valued.

Every effort is made to provide assistance, encouragement and advice for:

  • Those children who have exceptional abilities and skills.
  • Those children who show particular physical, intellectual, social or emotional needs.

This is achieved through:

  • Referral of children with learning, social or emotional to one of the following:
    • Special Needs Coordinator
    • Student Well Being Coordinator
    • School Counsellor
    • C.E.O. Students Services
    • Community Agencies
  • Following up
    • Integration & Support Group meetings
    • Reports & Assistance from C.E.O. Students Services staff
    • Special Needs and Student Well Being Coordinators & other staff act upon suggestions and provide follow up assistance
  • Welfare related programs
    • Kidsmatter
    • You can do it.
    • ERIS (Enhancing Relationships in Schools)
    • School Counsellor
    • Visiting Nurse Program
    • Students Representative Council

Interpreters

The school has Vietnamese interpreters available to assist parents with communication with school staff. We also employ interpreters for other languages as needed. Please let the school know if you need an interpreter to assist you.

Out of Hours Care

The school has no facilities to provide before and after school care. A limited number of After School Care places are available through the Footscray YMCA. They can be contacted on 9689 1322. They provide a bus and responsible person to drop off students before school and to pick up students after school to take them to the YMCA in Essex St Footscray.

Transition

Kindergarten to Primary School
On enrolment at Christ the King P.S., all kindergartens are contacted for information regarding students’ needs in their transition to primary school.

Primary School to Secondary School

Applications for Catholic Secondary schools (e.g. Caroline Chisholm Catholic College) are called for when students are in year 5 so it is advisable for parents to give consideration to the secondary school they wish their child to attend when their child is in year 4. Government secondary schools (e.g. Braybrook Secondary College) call for enrolments later when the child is in year 6.

All secondary schools seek information from the primary school regarding the individual needs of students to assist in transition to secondary school.

All secondary schools hold an orientation day late in term 4.
